Paraguay Mouthbrooder. Geophagus balzanii belong to a group of fish known as the eartheaters. This species is very distinctive and recognizable. While very colorful males develop spectacular nuchal humps paired with their tall dorsal spines give presence to a grand cichlid.
Easily fed, provided anything offered sinks, as it will rarely feed from anywhere other than the substrate. Good quality granules foods, flake and small live and frozen foods are all recommended. Try to ensure it receives some vegetable matter. Spirulina flake, blanched spinach or shelled frozen peas work well.
